The Exhaust

My initial plan was to use as much of a standard Ford Sierra exhaust as possible, as that was the car that the engine had been removed from .  However,  it became evident that the Sierra exhaust manifold could not be used. on this car as it wouldn't fit through box section chassis, being a 4 into 2 into 1 type of manifold.  My brother suggested that a  Cortina manifold might fit as it is a 4 into one arrangement and shorter than the Sierra one.  This threw up the problem of  finding a (cheap) Cortina manifold. Problem solved by using National breakers web site. Submitted the part I needed using their on-line form, which resulted in me receiving two phone calls that afternoon and two more the following day of breakers yards who had the part in. It seems there are still a reasonable amount of Cortinas up north but none down in Wiltshire.  Once this was fitted a standard Cortina downpipe was then used which fitted nicely between the chassis and under the gearbox. From this downpipe  I used generic parts from the Jetex 'build your own' range available which I bought from Merlin Motorsport at Castle Coombe, it's only 25 minutes away from me. Couple of straight bits, a couple of 90 degree bends and a silencer, all 2". Bolted together nicely and ties up well with the Cortina down pipe.
